The Shults Agency is a full service independent insurance agency with offices in Fort Plain, New York, and Johnstown, New York. Originally founded in 1854 and changing hands to the MacLauchlin family in 1975, this agency has a decades long tradition of providing the utmost in service to our clients and to our community.

Available Positions:

Customer Service Representative


Full time position available immediately for the right candidate to join our growing team.

The position entails asking questions and gathering information for the purpose of providing an insurance quote, reviewing client's policies for accuracy, and providing solutions to all client needs with outstanding customer service.

License in insurance by New York, or any state, is preferable, however not necessary.  High school diploma and a successful employment record are essential to be considered.

Licensed Insurance Agent


Immediate full time position available for an experienced applicant with a current Property and Casualty License. Primary location at our Fort Plain office Monday - Friday 8:30-5pm.


Responsibilities include:

  • Discussing coverage needs with current and potential clients
  • Preparing and presenting insurance quotes for new clients and remarketing policies for existing clients as necessary
  • Processing documents associated with new and existing policies
  • Reporting new claims and following up on current claims to ensure client satisfaction
  • Providing superior customer service while caring for a variety of insured needs
  • Maintaining client records with accuracy and attention to detail


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Current New York State Property and Casualty License
  • Basic office and computer skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor with a positive attitude
